Hi, my name is Janel.

Born in the US and raised in Hong Kong, I am an interaction designer with experience in product innovation, industrial design, and user experience design.

Recently graduated with an MFA in Interaction Design at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

I was selected as a UX design intern at Amazon in Digital Device Group working on the latest Alexa device Echo Spot, imaging the future of Echo Spot home experience aimed to provide better content experience for customers.

My project StoryLine focuses on helping older generation to connect with their family members, demonstrated my human centered approach and how we tested our assumptions. Our team presented during the Interaction 17 conference and awarded 2nd place in the Student Design Challenge.

I also successfully funded a Kickstarter project, AVRA; exploring the intersection of physical and digital experience with virtual reality. The project was selected to showcase at the NYC Media lab Demo in 2017.

For me, good design is, Empathy, Sustainable and Optimistic. I think it is important to always put user’s need at the forefront to create self sustained and fluid system with the vision of a better future.

Outside of school or work, you will find me in cafes learning coding (Javascript at the moment), museums getting inspired, and thrift stores finding interesting objects.
